It’s finally time to go to Middle Earth this time with a new star. ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum’, directed Andy Serkisunveiled its official cast at CinemaCon 2026.

In addition to directing, Serkis will reprise his iconic role as Gollum aka Smeagol. The movie confirmed to be back Ian McKellen Gandalf and Elijah Wood Like Frodo Baggins, next door Lee Pace As Thranduil, he will also be joined by a new cast of Hollywood heavyweights. They are among the new additions to the franchise Kate Winslet like Marigold Leo Woodall As Halvard, and Jamie Dornan as Strider, later revealed to be Aragorn in ‘The Lord of the Rings’. While Kate was confirmed to be starring in the film, rumors spread that she would be cast as Leo Aragorn, causing quite a stir among fans of the hit network. The update comes just weeks before the film begins filming in New Zealand in May 2026.
The plot of ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum’
The film sees Serkis return to play Gollum, after last reprising his role in ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’. According to reports, the film’s plot will follow Aragorn tracking down Gollum, tasked by Gandalf to preserve the location of the One Ring from the dark Lord Sauron. Set in the years leading up to ‘The Fellowship of the Ring’, the film will chronicle Gollum’s quest and the corruption of the One Ring’s powers.
