Amid growing social media buzz about the sharp rise in fuel prices, the government has stepped in to set the record straight. The fact-checking unit of the Press Information Bureau (PIB) has dismissed as fake the viral claims of a huge hike in petrol and diesel prices and clarified that no such order has been issued. The viral message, which has been widely circulated across platforms, has claimed Gasoline prices The price of diesel has been increased by Rs 10 per liter and the price of diesel by Rs 12.50 per litre. It was issued as an official notification by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. However, PIB’s fact-check unit confirmed that the document is not genuine and urged citizens to rely only on verified official sources for accurate updates. The clarification comes at a time when global oil markets are witnessing volatility due to geopolitical tensions in West Asia. This background has made consumers more sensitive to any news related to fuel prices, allowing such misinformation to spread rapidly.Adding to the reassurance, a senior government official also said that there is currently no proposal to increase retail fuel prices. This shows that, at present, there is no immediate impact on consumers despite fluctuating international crude oil prices.
Fuel prices remain unchanged in major cities. Petrol price in Delhi is Rs 94.77 per litre, while diesel price is Rs 87.67 per litre. In Mumbai, petrol is selling at Rs 103.54 per liter and diesel at Rs 90.03 per litre.Stay connected with TOI Auto for the latest updates on the automotive sector and follow us on our social media handles on Facebook, Instagram and X.
