‘Khalnayak’ may be the portrait Jackie Shroff and Sanjay Dutt as rivals, but their off-screen relationship has always been heated. In a past interview, Jackie opened up about her bond with Dutt. He also shared a lighthearted memory from the film’s shoot.
Jackie Shroff on her relationship with Sanjay Dutt
Speaking in an interview with Siddharth Kanan on Jio Cinema in 2023, Jackie talked about their closeness. He explained that their friendship goes back many years. That connection made working together even more special.Reflecting on the experience, he said, “The happiness of working with your friend (Khalnayak) is completely different. Then working with your guru. Subhash Ghai and talented actors like Madhuri Dixit, Anupam Kher and Neena Gupta was a beautiful memory”.
Memory of the ‘Monkey’ fight scene
Jackie also talked about a certain action sequence. It was challenging and fun. He described how the scene involved climbing a tree branch. The actors initially saw monkeys playing there.Recalling the moment, he said, “I remember climbing a branch of a tree for a fight sequence. Before that sequence, we were watching the monkeys sitting on that branch and having fun. Suddenly, Subhash ji told us, ‘Iske uppar chadh kar fight karenge (We will climb that and fight).’ Suddenly, from watching monkeys, we became monkeys. That branch was so slippery. They tied us with only one hook and forced us to fight. It was a lot of fun.”
Sequel to ‘Khalnayak’
The film is now coming back with a sequel. Sanjay Dutt recently confirmed the development. He has announced that he will produce the new project. He also plans to reprise his role from the original film. The announcement has created excitement among the fans and the makers have also shared the first look poster of the sequel.
Subhash Ghai’s role in the sequel
While the director of the sequel is yet to be finalized, Subhash Ghai will be associated with the project. He will take on the role of mentor.Speaking to TOI City, Ghai said, “Sanju was eager to make this sequel for years. Even when he was in jail, he wrote to me saying, ‘Uncle, I want to make this film’. So I sent him the concept and the story. If you ask me, nobody can make this film the way I did it. However, I don’t want to remake my film; I’m keen, why don’t you produce it yourself, and I can be your creative producer.” I am sure that he will find the right director for the film and will announce it soon.’
