In an official statement, the highway authority said the move came after several complaints where the registration number captured by FASTag scanners did not match the number displayed on the vehicle’s number plate. NHAI noted that such mismatches could weaken the enforcement system, lead to potential revenue leakage and lead to penalties. Under this system, toll collection and enforcement, including issuing electronic notices to violators, will rely heavily on accurate vehicle identification.As part of the directive, banks have been asked to immediately verify the FASTags they have issued.
