The use of artificial intelligence in life is becoming more and more prominent. Today, many careers require the use of AI tools to efficiently complete tasks. However, there is an ongoing debate about the use of AI for creative work, including filmmaking, screenwriting and design, etc. Seth Rogen, whose latest animated film ‘Tangles’ has just premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, took part in the discussion.
Seth Rogen on using AI as a screenwriter
While attending the Cannes Film Festival, Rogen sat down with Brut America and explained how and why AI is being misused in screenwriting and filmmaking. He joked about it and stated that he will never understand what AI is supposed to do with a screenwriter. He added: “Every time I see a ‘Hollywood cooks’ video on Instagram, the next one is like the dumbest dog I’ve ever seen in my life.” He also specified that if you use AI for your work, “it’s not writing.” He also said, “If your instinct is to use AI and not go through that process, you shouldn’t be a writer. ‘You’re not writing.’To finish the statement, he also stated that he believes that such writers should go do “something else”.
Seth Rogen comments that he loves to write
The actor also stated that using AI to write something will not make sense to him because it will never be real writing. “The idea of a tool that makes me write less doesn’t appeal to me. I like to write.” Sarah Leavitt, whose 2010 memoir ‘Tangles’ was the inspiration, also weighed in on the matter and noted that she also encourages her students to do things on their own, no matter what.Leavitt works professionally as a creative writing teacher. He added, “We like to tell our students, ‘One of the things AI can’t do is go through the creative process.’ You don’t just create a product, you are in the process of inventing it”.Seth Rogen is not the only celebrity to speak out against the use of AI in filmmaking and art in general. Scarlett Johansson, Charisma Carpenter, Tom Hanks, Samuel L. Jackson, George RR Martin and many others have repeatedly spoken out against the use of AI. A lot of people objected when AI actress Tilly Norwood went viral a few months ago.
