Bhagyashree He shocked everyone in Bollywood when he took a bold decision that no one expected. She recently starred in her first film ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’ with Salman Khan which was a huge hit. But when he was only 20 years old, he chose to leave acting behind and focus on his personal life. She married businessman Himalaya Dassani and decided that her family was more important than fame, a choice very few actors would have made.
Bhagyashree why family came before fame
Now, speaking to Variety India, the actress revealed, “I was very young and very much in love. I wanted to get married and start a family. I think every young girl dreams of that. When the film came out, I was married and pregnant, because there was a gap of a year between the shooting and the release. As a 20-year-old, it was logical for me to make a choice: either follow my love, get married and lead my life that way, or go to the cinema and forget about love. It was all about priority. Then it was impossible to be both.”
Bhagyashree says she regrets the only decision
But there is one decision Bhagyashree admits she regrets. After ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’, her husband only worked in films where he played her love interest. These films included ‘Qaid Mein Hai Bulbul’, ‘Paayal’ and ‘Tyagi’. In retrospect, he admits it wasn’t the smartest move. She candidly shared, “Someone came to me and said they wanted to do a film with me and my husband wanted to play my love interest. I thought, why not? It just seemed like the easiest thing to do. I didn’t think about how the audience would feel. I didn’t think about the repercussions. I still feel bad about it, but it’s okay. You make a lot of mistakes when you’re young, and this was one of them. We had fun and finished that part.”
when Yash Chopra and Manmohan Desai He tried to win Bhagyashree again
The actor also revealed that his exit from mainstream cinema did not go down well with some of the biggest names in the industry. Legendary filmmakers tried hard to bring him back, but he resisted. He recalled: “I was reprimanded Yash Yi. Manmohan Desai told me, ‘Bhagyashree, say yes and I will announce the film tomorrow. Why don’t you do it?'” Despite the weight of those missed opportunities, Bhagyashree talks about them today with a sense of relief and acceptance rather than bitterness. “I don’t regret my decisions, but there is a desire. They were masters of their craft, and it would be wonderful to work with them. Because of the choices I made, I missed the opportunity to work with some of the greatest filmmakers. But life goes on, and you don’t look back.”

Bhagyashree on success: “There is enough grass for everyone”
Many wondered what his rapid rise to fame could be, and some even suggested that he surpassed several leading actors of his time. He fondly recalled one such moment when a fellow actor paid him an unexpected compliment. “It was so sweet when Juhi once told me, ‘It’s a good thing you left the industry, otherwise…’.” But Bhagyashree takes such words to heart and believes that success is never a zero-sum game. “I feel there is enough grass for everyone. You have to be honest with your work, and you will always find appreciation.”
