the director Vignesh Shivan recently talked about the title change of his latest film ‘Love Insurance Kompany’ popularly known as ‘LIK’. Film, protagonist Pradeep Ranganathan, Krithi Shettyand SJ Suryah, who was recently released after suffering several delays. When the project was first announced, the director had planned to title the film ‘LIC’ as ‘Love Insurance Company’.However, the title soon raised legal concerns because it coincided with the name of the well-known insurance organization Life Insurance Corporation of India. To avoid legal complications, the team finally decided to change the title before the film’s release.
Vignesh Shivan reveals 112 crore demand for ‘LIC’ title
Speaking on the matter in a YouTube chat with Sudhir Srinivasan, Vignesh Shivan revealed that the insurance company was demanding a huge amount if the film continued to use the original title. He said, “Initially we named the film ‘LIC’, which stands for Love Insurance Company. But LIC asked for 112 crores if we wanted to use the title. I don’t have 112 crores, so it couldn’t be done.” The director also explained that he already had some backup title options ready in case of such a problem. “I had backups like LIP, LIT, LIK and LIF. Finally, we chose LIK. Many people liked the way they used the word ‘Kompany’ after watching the film,” he added. According to him, the group quickly decided to go ahead with the new title to avoid further legal issues.
How “Love Insurance Kompany” became “LIK”
Initially, the film was promoted as “Love Insurance Company” with the abbreviation LIC. However, after the notification came from the Life Insurance Corporation of India, the officials decided to change the title. In the end, the team chose “LIK” keeping the full form of “Love Insurance Kompany”. The creative spelling was also deliberately kept to give the film a unique personality. Director Vignesh Shivan said the word ‘Kompany’ was playfully styled, and the design element called ‘Kombu’ symbolized pride and attitude in the film’s theme. Thanks to this change, the film went ahead without any legal hurdles.
After releasing the response at the ‘LIK’ box office
The movie ‘LIK’ finally hit the theaters on April 10 after a long wait and received mixed reviews from the audience. Despite mixed reactions, the film has managed to attract attention at the box office. According to Sacnilk, the film has collected around 39 crores worldwide in its first four days. Pradeep Ranganathan’s fans and the rest of the cast have shown decent support for the film. While the critical response remains divided, the film continues to create controversy due to its unique title story and the interesting revelation shared by Vignesh Shivan about the Rs 112 crore demand.
