May is expected to see a fresh set of car launches and unveilings in India, after a busy April that saw multiple introductions across segments and price points. Last month featured the VinFast VF MPV 7, an updated Volkswagen Taigun, the long-wheelbase Tesla Model YL, the Mercedes-Benz CLA Electric and more. Activity is set to continue with several confirmed launches and more expected unveilings. Automakers are gearing up to strengthen their presence in segments like compact SUVs, premium sedans and EVs. The upcoming models are likely to focus on new introductions as well as additional features, revised variant lineups and additional updates. May is expected to bring several announcements, with manufacturers maintaining the pace seen in April. Here’s a look at the models likely to launch or debut in the coming weeks.MG Magistrate First on the list is the new MG Majestor, which is expected to be launched in the first half of May. Pre-booking is already underway; Interested customers can book online or visit their nearest MG dealership for Rs 41,000. Showroom previews and test drives are already underway, and deliveries are expected to begin soon after the launch.The SUV will be offered in three variants: Sharp 4×4, Savvy 4×2, and Savvy 4×4. Once launched, the new Magister will compete with the Toyota Fortuner Legend and is expected to be priced around Rs 45 lakh (ex-showroom). Talking about the engine first, it is offered in a single 2.0-liter twin-turbo diesel with 215 hp of power, mated to a ZF 8-speed automatic transmission. The SUV gets a 4×4 system with all-terrain management software, which MG calls M-Hub, which offers up to 10 selectable terrains and drive modes. It also gets a crawl mode called the M-Crawl function, and three differential locks. It also has a maximum water wading capacity of 810 mm for an SUV. The SUV offers up to 10 off-road modes with automatic on-the-fly switching between 2H and 4H drive settings.
The new Magister is offered in six- and seven-seat layout options. The six-seater gets individual captain’s seats in the second row, while there’s a conventional seven-seater bench. The dashboard has been completely redesigned with piano black trim and silver accents that provide a modern feel. In terms of features, it gets 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment, 12.3-inch digital driver display, MG’s i-Smart 2.0 connected car technology, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 12-speaker JBL sound system, electrically adjustable front seats, three-mat control with multiple automatic cool zones and heat mat control. Rear row vents, dual wireless charging pads, a panoramic sunroof, paddle shifters, 64-color ambient lighting, gesture-operated tailgate and more. Toyota Urban CruiserAbella Next on the list is the much-awaited Toyota Urban Cruiser Abella, which is expected to be launched sometime in May 2026. Pre-booking is open at Toyota dealerships for a token amount of Rs 25,000. Toyota is also offering an 8-year battery warranty, a 60 percent guaranteed buyback program and a service option as a battery. The Urban Cruiser Abella will be available with two battery pack options: a 49kW unit and a larger 61kW unit. The latter claims to provide a range of up to 543 km on a single charge. As for the power figures, it makes 172 hp and 189 Nm of torque.

In terms of design, the Urban Cruiser Abella retains the same silhouette and dimensions as the E-Vitara, but features distinctive Toyota styling touches. Up front, it features a revised fascia with segmented LED DRLs, reshaped headlamps and a slimmer bumper, giving it a cleaner and less angular look than its Maruti counterpart. The side profile remains largely unchanged apart from redesigned 18-inch alloy wheels, while the rear gets updated taillamp signatures with Urban Cruiser and Abella badges. The model will be available in 5 monotone and 4 dual tone color options.The cabin layout remains unchanged, and in the features department, this electric SUV gets a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, 10.1-inch infotainment screen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, cloud-based navigation, panoramic sunroof, ambient color options and color lighting with 1. In addition, it gets features like wireless charging, a JBL sound system, automatic climate control, multiple USB ports, and an in-cabin air purifier.Honda. The cityNext is the Honda City. It is not yet clear whether this will be a full generation update or a facelift. If it is a facelift, it will mark the second update for the fifth-generation model, following the first revision introduced in 2023. The City facelift is expected to get a redesigned bumper, a new grille and slimmer headlamps. A change to the lower grille and a minor modification to the bonnet are also likely. Overall, the facelift seems to focus on incremental styling updates rather than a complete redesign.The facelifted Honda City is expected to get interior updates focused on features and comfort. Possible additions include a 360-degree camera, ventilated front seats and an updated infotainment system with better connectivity. The cabin may also get revised upholstery with new material or color options. Overall, the changes are expected to increase comfort and equipment levels without major changes to the interior layout.Mechanically, it is expected to remain the same and will continue to get two engine options – a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, NA petrol engine that produces 121bhp and 145Nm of torque and is paired with a 6-speed MT or CVT gearbox. It also offers the first hybrid powertrain in the segment: a 1.5-liter Atkinson cycle hybrid engine with 124 hp and 253 Nm of torque.Honda ZR-VAlong with the new Honda City, the Honda ZR-V is also expected to debut. The Honda ZR-V is expected to arrive in India as a full import, a halo offering rather than a volume model on top of the brand’s current lineup. It is likely to be powered by a 2.0-litre petrol hybrid engine mated to an e-CVT gearbox, producing around 180hp and 315Nm, with the all-wheel drive option. Prices are expected to be in the Rs 40-50 lakh range (ex-showroom), which puts it in competition with premium five-seater SUVs like Volkswagen Tiguan and Skoda Kodiaq.MoneyDesi CNext up is the Mini Countryman C, which is expected to launch sometime in May 2026. Pre-bookings for the locally produced Mini Countryman C have started recently. Interested customers can book the car exclusively through mini-dealerships starting today. Pricing is expected to be announced next month, with deliveries expected to begin shortly after launch. The new Mini Countryman C will be manufactured locally at the BMW Group plant in Chennai.

In India, the Countryman is currently offered in an all-electric version and with the sportier JCW pack. The company will now introduce a petrol variant, and Mini says this addition will complete the Countryman lineup in India. The upcoming Countryman is likely to be priced between Rs 40 lakh and Rs 45 lakh. The new SUV will compete with BMW X1, Audi Q3, Mercedes-Benz GLA, Volvo XC40 and other similarly priced SUVs.In terms of design, the Mini Countryman C follows the design cues of the JCW and electric versions in terms of overall design elements such as the headlamp design, tail lamps and wheel design. At the front, it gets circular headlamps paired with a more square grille, along with a straighter nose and a revised bumper, giving it a stronger look than the earlier models.In profile, the design shifts to a more boxy silhouette, with a flat roofline, upright stance and squared-off wheel arches. The longer wheelbase contributes to better proportions and interior space. The rear remains simple, with LED taillamps featuring a modern light signature, clean tailgate design and minimal detailing. Moving inside, the cabin follows a minimalist layout, highlighted by a central circular touchscreen. The dashboard design minimizes physical controls while retaining some of the Mini’s distinctive styling elements.BMW M440iThe BMW M440i Convertible is expected to debut in India around mid-2026 as an open-top performance-focused offering. It will be powered by a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six engine producing around 374hp and 500Nm, mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission and BMW’s xDrive all-wheel drive system, with a claimed 0-100km/h time of 4.9 seconds. The model features a fabric soft top with M Sport styling and 19-inch alloy wheels that can accelerate to 50 kmph in around 18 seconds. Expected to be priced around Rs 1.1 crore (ex-showroom), it will compete with models like the Mercedes-Benz CLE Cabriolet.
