Christopher Nolan, Matt Damon and Tom Holland will visit India in July for the premiere of ‘The Odyssey’ in Mumbai. Producer Emma Thomas will join the filmmaker and protagonist at the event. This event will mark the first time a Nolan film will be released in India, and will give fans a chance to welcome the team behind one of the biggest releases of the year ahead of its worldwide release.
Christopher Nolan and ‘The Odyssey’ actors are heading to Mumbai
Hindustan Times reported that Universal Pictures International announced Mumbai as one of the four cities for the film’s promotional tour. They will have premieres in London, Paris and New York. The organizers have not announced the date of the event in Mumbai. The Indian premiere will be held at PVR Icon IMAX at Phoenix Palladium Mall. Nolan, Thomas, Damon and Holland are expected to attend. In a press release he described the visit as a “landmark” for cinema and the Indian entertainment industry.
“The Odyssey” follows Homer’s ancient Greek epic
Nolan wrote and directed “The Odyssey,” an adaptation of Homer’s ancient Greek poem. Damon plays Odysseus, the king of Ithaca who makes a perilous journey home after the Trojan War. Anne Hathaway is Penelope, the wife of Odysseus, and Holland is the son of Telemachus. The cast includes Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Samantha Morton, Zendaya and Charlize Theron. Thomas and Nolan produced the film through Syncopy. The production used real locations and practical effects to recreate ancient Greece, following Nolan’s preference for filming scenes rather than relying on computer-generated settings.Speaking at the Adopt-A-Pet Day event in California on June 6, Damon called it “the hardest movie I’ve ever done.” He added that Nolan prefers to shoot scenes for real instead of using green screens or studio stand-ins.The film has a technical distinction. It is the first feature shot entirely with IMAX cameras. That format will play a role in its theatrical run, including its Mumbai premiere. ‘The Odyssey’ opens in theaters worldwide on July 17. The Mumbai event will position Universal with three Indian premiere destinations as the promotional push for Nolan’s film begins.
