Tata Motors is all set to expand its electric vehicle portfolio with the launch of the highly anticipated Sierra EV in India on June 30. The upcoming electric SUV is expected to compete with the likes of Hyundai Creta Electric, Maruti Suzuki e Vitara and Mahindra BE 6 in the growing SUV electric segment.The Sierra EV is expected to sport a distinct visual identity compared to the ICE Sierra. Like most electric vehicles, Tata is likely to equip it with a closed front grille, redesigned bumpers and aerodynamically optimized alloy wheels.Inside, the Sierra EV is likely to be positioned as a premium offering within Tata’s lineup. The cabin is expected to feature a contemporary dashboard design with a large digital display. The lower variants may get a dual-screen setup, while the top-spec versions are likely to offer a triple-screen layout as seen on the internal combustion engine-powered Sierra.Tata can equip the SUV with a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control, wireless smartphone charging, 360-degree camera and powered tailgate. In addition, the Sierra EV is expected to feature Dolby Atmos with a 12-speaker JBL sound system with connected car technology, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.In terms of powertrain options, the Sierra EV is expected to sit between the Curvv EV and the Harrier EV in Tata Motors’ electric vehicle portfolio. The SUV can be offered with a number of battery pack options, including 55 kWh and 65 kWh units. Higher variants may also get a larger 75 kWh battery pack, as is currently available with the Harrier EV.Tata is also likely to offer multiple drivetrain configurations. Entry-level variants may have a single-motor setup, while higher trims may have a dual-motor arrangement with all-wheel drive capability. These versions are expected to use Tata’s quad-wheel drive technology, which made its debut on the Harrier EV.Another highlight could be the inclusion of Tata’s Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) program. Under this proprietary model, customers can purchase a vehicle without a battery and select a subscription-based battery plan separately. This helps reduce the initial cost of purchase and can make EV ownership more accessible to a wider set of buyers.
