Legendary filmmaker Bharathiraja passed away on June 10 due to age-related health problems. As tributes were being paid to the legendary director, the Tamil Nadu Government announced that the director’s funeral rites will be conducted with state honours. Bharathiraja was an active part of the film industry for more than four decades, during which he made several brilliant films that completely revolutionized the Tamil film industry. He was one of the few filmmakers who created classics like ’16 Vayathinile’, ‘Alaigal Oivathillai’, ‘Mudhal Mariyadhai’ and many other masterpieces that created a new genre of filmmaking related to rural life and emotions. He hoped that Bharathiraja’s soul would find eternal peace in heaven and also said that appropriate state honors would be announced very soon.
