New Delhi: After a grueling 70-match league phase, the IPL 2026 season is finally set to conclude its business. Only four of the original ten teams are in contention, all chasing a place in Sunday’s grand final and a shot at lifting the coveted IPL trophy.The first play-off match — Qualifier 1 — sees defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru take on Gujarat Titans at the picturesque HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala on Tuesday. With direct access to the finals at stake, the competition promises to be a high-intensity showdown between two of the most complete teams of the season.There is little to separate the sides on paper. Both teams ended the league stage with nine wins out of 14 matches, with RCB taking the top spot only because of a higher net run rate.
RCB’s batting depth vs GT’s powerful bowling attack
Led by batting maestro Virat Kohli, RCB have the strongest batting unit of the tournament. Kohli once again had an impressive season, scoring 577 runs at an impressive strike rate of 163.82, including a century and four half-centuries.The return of opening partner Phil Salt further strengthens RCB’s top order ahead of the playoffs. Standing against them is a formidable GT bowling line-up led by Kagiso Rabada and Mohammad Siraj. Rabada took 24 wickets this season, while Siraj took 17 wickets. But now they face the experienced duo of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood on RCB’s new ball.
