His previous worst economy in such an outing came against Lucknow Supergiants in Ahmedabad during IPL 2025, when he conceded 36 runs in two overs at an economy of 18. The nightmare became more painful in the final over of Rajasthan’s innings when Rashid was brutally attacked by Donovan Ferreira. The South African batsman hit four sixes in the over as Rajasthan scored 27 runs off the last six balls. The over also equaled the record for the most expensive over bowled by a spinner in the history of the IPL playoffs. The unloved record was previously held by Ravi Bishnoi, whose over went for 27 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the 2022 Eliminator Kolkata. Rashid’s tough night came amid a sensational batting display from Rajasthan Royals, led once again by teenage superstar Vaibhav Suryavanshi. The 15-year-old scored a brilliant 96 off just 47 deliveries in front of a packed crowd that had largely turned out to witness his latest masterclass. Rajasthan’s innings got off to a disastrous start as Yashvi Jaiswal and Dhruv Jurel were both dismissed in the first two overs by Mohammad Siraj and Kagiso Rabada. On a used surface that had already hosted an eliminator, Gujarat’s fast bowlers targeted Suryavanshi with short-pitch bowling and hard length in the body.
