These are the only mid-size SUVs in India to offer a robust hybrid petrol setup, enabling higher fuel efficiency than conventional petrol models. Victories records the highest mileage in this group, followed by Grand Vitara and Highrider. The 1.0-litre, 116hp, 3-cylinder turbo-petrol with 172Nm of torque claims a fuel efficiency of 19.66 kmpl for the MT and 19.09 kmpl for the AT. This engine used to get a 6-speed torque converter automatic earlier, but now Skoda has introduced a new 8-speed torque converter automatic transmission, which is also available as an option in the base variant. There’s also a more powerful 150 hp, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol mated only to a 7-speed DSG gearbox. Its fuel efficiency is claimed at 18.72 kmpl.
Citroen Basalt and Aircross Next on the list are Citroën Basalt and Citroën C3 Aircross. Both models are available with naturally aspirated and turbo-petrol engine options, with the turbocharged version offering higher fuel efficiency than the naturally aspirated. The 110 hp, 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder turbo-petrol gets two gearbox options – a 6-speed MT or a torque converter automatic. The Citroën Basalt returns a claimed mileage of 19.5kpl (MT) and 18.7kpl (AT), while the Citroën C3 Aircross delivers 18.5kpl (MT) and 17.6kpl (AT).
Renault DusterThe next SUV on the list is the new Renault Duster. It is currently offered with two engine options – a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbo-petrol and a 1.3-litre, 163 hp, turbo-petrol engine. Mileage figures have been revealed only for the larger engine option, with the automatic variant offering around 0.7kpl more efficiency than the manual. Renault Duster delivers a claimed mileage of 17.75kpl with manual transmission and 18.45kpl with automatic.Hyundai CretaNext is the Hyundai Creta. The 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder turbo petrol with 160hp and 250Nm claims a fuel efficiency of 18 kmpl for the MT transmission (only offered with the N-line variant). The DCT trim claims an efficiency of 18.4 kmpl. The 1.5-litre NA petrol with 115hp and 144Nm gets 17.4 kmpl for the manual and 17.7 kmpl for the CVT automatic.
