Mercedes-Benz G580 Electric recalled over issue: Details

Mercedes-Benz India has voluntarily recalled 99 units of the G 580 electric SUV due to a possible problem with the vehicle’s wheel bolts. The affected electric SUVs were manufactured between July 12, 2024 and August 18, 2025. Mercedes-Benz has not reported any incidents related to this issue. However, the company has initiated the recall as a precautionary measure and has advised owners of the affected vehicles to get their SUVs inspected at authorized service centers.According to details published on the SIAM portal, some vehicles may have wheel bolts that do not meet certain standards. Over time, bolts and wheel connections can loosen while driving, affecting vehicle stability and increasing the risk of a crash. The recall notice states that a loose wheel connection can impair driving stability under certain conditions. This is the second comeback of Mercedes-Benz India in 2026. Earlier this year, the company recalled select C63 S AMG and CLE models over a possible defect in the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS). Although the automaker has not released a detailed statement on the matter, it is expected that the required repairs will be done at no cost. Owners can also contact an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealership to check if their vehicle is covered by the recall. The Mercedes-Benz G580 is powered by a 116kWh battery pack with four electric motors, one for each wheel. The setup delivers a combined output of 587PS and 1,164Nm of torque. Mercedes-Benz claims a WLTP-certified driving range of 473 km, while the SUV can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 5 seconds. One of its key features is the G-Turn function, which allows the vehicle to complete a 720-degree rotation on the spot. For off-road use, the electric G-Class retains an independent front suspension and features a rigid rear axle with virtual mechanical differential locks for better torque distribution. It also comes with a low-range gearbox and an off-road crawl mode that lets the SUV move at speeds below 2kph. The EV-specific architecture has improved its water-wading capacity to 850mm, which is 100mm more than the standard G-Class.
