‘Patriot’, the spy action thriller starring Mammootty and Mohanlal, has slowed down at the box office entering its 14th day. The film which started with high hopes due to the reunion of two of the biggest stars of Malayalam cinema, is now showing signs of early breeze in theatres. On day 14, the collections dropped to 12 lakhs and is one of the weakest single day performances till date.

‘Patriot’s two weeks show a weak and uneven trend

According to Sacnilk, the film’s weekday earnings have fluctuated but have mostly been on a downward trend. On day 7 it collected Rs 98 lakh and on day 8 it was Rs 71 lakh. Day 9 again reached Rs 98 lakh, Day 10 improved to Rs 1.07 crore.However, the momentum was not sustained. Day 11 and Day 12 dropped to 47 lakh. Day 13’s dropped to 30 lakh and the latest figure for Day 12 confirms the steady decline.

“Patriot’s domestic profits slow while overseas holds strong

At the overall box office, the film has so far collected 31.22 crores in India. The gross in India is currently Rs 36.22 crore. Foreign markets have fared better in comparison.International territories have contributed 43.25 million euros. That brings the worldwide gross to 79.47 million.The Malayalam spy thriller, which reunited Mammootty and Mohanlal after a long gap, released on May 1. Initially, it received largely positive responses. However, audience reactions were soon mixed. Some viewers appreciated the scale and theme of the action thriller while others expressed concerns about the execution and pacing.

Mammootty’s comments on mixed reactions

At a public event in Dubai, Mammootty spoke about the mixed response from the audience. According to a report by Mid-day, he said, “We live in an era where privacy is increasingly being lost, and the film Patriot deals with an important issue.” He also accepted different opinions about the film. He said: “There will be different opinions: good, bad, partly good, mostly good. Everyone is free to express their opinion as they feel. Some of you have heard such opinions before coming here. Either way, you’ll complete your vision, and that’s what matters.
