Director RJ Balaji’s ‘Karuppu’ has taken the box office by storm, returning huge crowds to the theaters with its perfect blend of raw emotion and storytelling. While the film stars Tamil superstar Suriya, veteran actor Indrans, playing the character of Sukumaran, has completely stolen the limelight. In particular, a beautiful shade featuring a Google Pay notification has gone viral on social media. However, Indrans has surprised fans by revealing that his real-life interaction with technology is completely different from his viral on-screen persona.
The real irony behind the viral Google Pay involving Indrans
In ‘Karuppu’, Indrans delivers one of the film’s most memorable moments when his character breaks down in tears while interacting through a Google Pay chat design. The clip has been shared thousands of times on platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram, hailed as a masterful portrayal of the modern character. In an interview with Cine Ulagam, the seasoned actor admitted, “Even now, I don’t know how to use Google Pay. I honestly don’t. I bought a smartphone recently.” He also admitted that he is still learning how to use many of the device’s features. His revelations have added a new layer of appreciation to his performance in the film as fans now see the scene in a completely different light.
How Indran got a smartphone
In the same interaction, Indrans shared a wonderful scenario of how a phone finally entered his life after years of resistance, crediting the tech-savvy titan of Malayalam cinema, Mammootty. For decades, Indrans preferred a low-tech lifestyle, refusing to carry a mobile device. Whenever production houses or directors wanted to cast him, he gave them his son’s phone number, allowing his son to filter messages, manage dates and give instructions.Recalling the incident, Indrans said, “Once, Mr. Mammootty called me about something. He asked me to hand over the phone to my son and said, ‘If I want to tell you something confidential, can I say it through him?'” Then he asked me why I never answered my phone. That’s how I ended up buying a smartphone. But even now I don’t know how to use it properly.” Realizing that the superstar had a point, Indrans bought a smartphone, officially entering the digital age.
The veteran actor’s simplicity wins hearts once again
Despite now owning a smartphone, Indrans admitted he still struggles to use many modern digital functions, including online payment apps. His humble lifestyle and honest confessions have won him the admiration of his fans through social media platforms. Fans have flooded social media, suggesting that his lack of personal familiarity with the apps probably makes his on-screen curiosity and vulnerability even more genuine.
