Speaking to Hindustan Times, director Suresh Triveni said that comedy sequences tend to be easier for actors as they don’t need them to maintain a high level of intensity during a long day of shooting. However, Madhuri stated that comedy comes with its challenges. “Intensity that you can maintain over time, but freshness – doing the same thing every time and staying fresh – is very difficult. Intensity that you can carry throughout the day. You’re angry or sad, but (in this comedy) it has to look like it’s happening for the first time. That’s difficult,” he said.

Madhuri showcased her comic timing in some of the biggest masala entertainers of the 90s including ‘Tezaab’, ‘Raja’ and ‘Dil’. “Those films had everything. There’s comedy, romance, the whole masala. It wasn’t that we didn’t do that (comedy), but I didn’t do comedy in between. It was something I could sink my teeth into,” said the actor.
