Among the many films in Ajay Devgn’s wide body of work, ‘Zakhm’ remains one of the highlights. the director Mahesh Bhattthe film has steadily gained a cult following over the years and is now regarded as one of the filmmaker’s most iconic creations.In a recent interview, Ajay Devgn recalled the unusual way he got on board for the film. When asked if he read a script overnight, the actor shared a memorable incident from his time shooting in Hyderabad.“I don’t remember reading a script overnight, but I remember this time, when I was shooting in Hyderabad. At that time, there were no mobile phones. I was in the shower. I rang the landline in the hotel bathroom, picked up and Bhatt Saab (Mahesh Bhatt) was on the line,” he said in an interview with Variety India.Devgn then explained how Bhatt told him the story in a couple of minutes. “He said, ‘I want you to make a film for me,’ and I said, ‘Bhatt Saab, I’m taking a bath, can I take you back?’ He said, ‘No, no, I’ll need a second and two minutes.’ After two minutes, he told Zakhm and I said, ‘Now, can I have a shower? Leave me alone, I’m making the film.’The actor also spoke about Bhatt’s faith in him long before he became a star. Recalling an early pre-release memory Devgn says, “My first film hadn’t released and I was outside my father’s office. A car was passing by and Bhatt saab said, “I looked into your eyes as the car was moving. You’re going to do great, trust me.” That felt amazing, too.”Earlier, Mahesh Bhatt too reflected on the difficult journey of bringing Zakhm to theatres. Film, protagonist Pooja Bhatt, Sonali Bendre, Kunal Khemuand Nagarjuna Akkineni along with Ajay Devgn faced several hurdles in its release.At an event in 2014, Bhatt said, “NDA was in power at that time. They told me that I must be crazy to do that film. I had the toughest time to release it. It took me a lot to pull it off. The film was made with passion and we are happy that Ajay Devgn won the National Award.”On the work front, Ajay Devgn was recently seen in De De Pyaar De 2, Mahesh Bhatt’s last directorial was Sadak 2.
