New Delhi: A ‘black magic’ row during the IPL 2026 clash between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings has taken social media by storm. A viral video showing a Sunrisers Hyderabad fan performing a lemon ritual – often referred to as black magic – coincided with the sacking of CSK star Shivam Dubey, has sparked widespread chatter online. Along with the video, an unverified letter claiming that CSK has complained to the IPL about the incident is also doing the rounds on social media.Former IPL commissioner reacting to the letter and the controversy Lalit Modi claimed that similar practices had taken place in the past as well, alleging that the owner of an IPL team had once resorted to similar practices.“I remember posting some team owner doing that to the opposing team. Just doing it myself in the opposing team’s dressing room. I even alerted opposing team owners this way in the 2011 season – when it happened and I got an alert with solid evidence. I will reveal all kinds of activities that my team has decided to reveal in the film/TV series,” Modi said.In another post, Modi dismissed the viral CSK complaint letter, questioning its authenticity.“Looks fake this time. But a team owner did this kind of practice,” Modi wrote.“Black magic or coincidence. Or fake news,” he added in another post reacting to the video.
