‘Karuppu’ has been one of the biggest commercial hits in Suriya’s career, and the strong performance in the film has now become a celebration for the actor’s family. The film is directed by RJ Balaji and mixes elements of fantasy and action along with top performances by Suriya and Trisha Krishnan.Now, actress Jyotika has reacted to the overwhelming response the film received. Speaking in a recent interaction with Sudhir Srinivasan, he shared his happiness over the audience support and strong box office numbers.
Jyotika talks about the box office importance
During the discussion, the host compared ‘Karuppu’ to Kamal Haasan’s ‘Vikram’ and observed that while the film may not necessarily be regarded as Suriya’s best work critically, it provided the celebratory theatrical experience that fans wanted.At the launch, Jyotika spoke about the importance of balancing storytelling and commercial success in film.“We are very anxious. Suriya loves to tell good stories and always makes sure that there is a story in every film. But box office numbers are also necessary, I think, for heroes. Or for actors, for any actor, for any budget. No one is there to be a loser. So it’s very important for them to post numbers too,” he said.
Jyotika says ‘Karuppu’ has its own soul
Jyotika further explained why she feels ‘Karuppu’ is different from the usual entertainers. According to him, the film combines moments of fan-service with an emotional core and a meaningful story.“It’s definitely very awesome. And if you watch ‘Karuppu’, apart from being a complete fan and commercial film, there’s a story going on. He’s playing a god, and there’s definitely something in the script. It is not just one of the usual commercial films. It has its own soul. It has simply been put in a different way for the masses to see. But the last ten minutes of the movie, I mean, Suriya’s performance is really great. We are so overwhelmed and so happy with the love. It’s a celebration at home.”
“Karuppu” is still going strong in the competition
The film has maintained a strong theatrical run despite a slight drop in daily collections. According to Sacnilk, Karuppu collected Rs 8.30 crore on day 7 in India. This reflected a decline of 22.4 percent compared to the net collection of Rs 10.70 crore on Day 6.The collections came from 5,140 shows across the country. The film’s net collection in India has now reached 114.05 crores.The gross collections in India are currently Rs 132.05 crore, showing the film’s good performance in Tamil Nadu and other key regions.‘Karuppu’ has also remained strong in overseas markets. The film earned 3 crores overseas on day 7 alone taking its international gross collection to 57 crores. The film’s worldwide gross collection has now reached 189.05 crores.
