Lucknow Supergiants are set to take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in what promises to be a high-octane match. IPL Clash, with a potential big boost in the form of the return of pace sensation Mayank Yadav. The young speedster, who has been sidelined through injury, is likely to be back in contention, and his return could add serious firepower to LSG’s already impressive bowling attack. On the eve of LSG’s match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Mayank spent some time spot bowling at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, before having a lengthy chat with bowling coach B Irwin, reports ESPNcricinfo. Franchise Global Director of Cricket Tom Moodyclarified that Mayank’s absence earlier in the season was not due to fitness concerns but a match preparation issue.“Mayank is ready to go,” said Moody. “He didn’t come into our thoughts early in the tournament because he was still a bit of an underdog. Not from a fitness point of view, his fitness was good, but in terms of the bowling load and feeling comfortable. We think he’s at that point now. He’s worked exceptionally hard.”While Mayank’s return is a positive, it also presents LSG with a selection dilemma. Their bowling unit has performed consistently so far, although the team has struggled to produce competitive totals.“Our bowling has been pretty solid so far,” Moody added. If Mayank is included in the playing XI, it could come at the expense of fellow fast bowler Aveesh Khan, who is also returning from injury. Avesh trained with Durban Supergiants in the SA20 to increase his workload ahead of the IPL season. Although he has been a bit expensive, conceding more than 10 runs per over, his experience is a valuable asset to the team.Modi also confirmed that the LSG’s Pace battery is close to full power. Mohsin Khan Also close to returning.“People like Mayank, Mohsin and Avish have long-term injuries. Our medical team has worked exceptionally hard to get them ready. They are all available now. Mohsin will probably have his last test on match day,” he said.As LSG prepare to face an in-form RCB side in a batting position, Mayank Yadav’s potential return could prove to be a game-changer, adding pace, excitement and a new dimension to their campaign.
