New Delhi: The BCCI has decided that young sensation Vibhu Suryavanshi’s parents will be allowed to accompany him on the upcoming tours of Ireland and England, with the board bearing all expenses to help the 15-year-old adjust to life in the senior Indian team.BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia said the move was aimed at ensuring that the younger age groups are comfortable transitioning from cricket to the demands of international cricket. “Since he is a child, we have decided to allow his parents to accompany him to Ireland and England, to stay with him and help him settle in the new environment. The board will bear all their expenses,” Saikia told Sportsstar. The teenage batsman earned his maiden India call-up for the T20I series and Asian Games in Ireland and England after a record-breaking IPL 2026 campaign in which he scored 776 runs. BCCI is keen to ease the transfer of youngsters.
Saikia revealed that Suryavanshi’s father, Sanjeev, has already flown to Sri Lanka to join his son, who is currently with India A for the tri-series in Dambulla.“Vibhu Suryavanshi’s father is arriving in Sri Lanka today and we will offer him that if he wants to go to UK and Ireland too, we will do so. Vibhu was selected for the India A team a few days ago and will soon be a part of India’s senior men’s team.“So to make him comfortable with the new environment, especially during his childhood, we have made arrangements for his father to go to Sri Lanka and stay with his son so that he gets used to the new environment,” Saikia told IANS.The BCCI secretary emphasized that the primary responsibility of the board is to ensure that the youth does not feel isolated in an unfamiliar environment.“Tomorrow he has also been selected for the T20I tours of Great Britain and Ireland. So we will offer that if parents or fathers want to go there, we will also arrange that. It is mainly to get the kids comfortable in the senior men’s team and that is the main thing behind it,” he said.“That’s because otherwise he always traveled with his under-19, junior boys or sub-junior boys team. It meant he was in the comfort zone. But now he will be in the adult world and we want to make him comfortable, because he is a 15-year-old kid. Surely with his parents, he would be more comfortable. Subject to their satisfaction and convenience, we are doing it,” he added.

A responsibility beyond cricket
Saikia said the board has a duty to ensure that the young players are not overwhelmed by the challenges of the new environment.“Look, we have some responsibility – that no one feels uncomfortable or alienated in a new environment. This is our basic principle so that they gradually join the senior team,” he said.Suryavanshi’s rapid rise has been nothing short of extraordinary. After starring in India’s U-19 World Cup victory, he dominated IPL 2026, finishing as the tournament’s top run-scorer with 776 runs, including a century and five fifties. He also won several individual awards, including the Orange Cap, Emerging Player Award, Most Valuable Player Award, Best Strike Rate and the record for most sixes in a single IPL season.Chief selector Ajit Agarkar said the youngster effectively “picked himself up” with his performance.“We have high hopes for him, and I think he’s really picked himself,” Agarkar said.
