Prayag Raj: Girls outperformed boys in CBSE Class X results 2026 in Prayagraj region, continuing a consistent educational trend even as the region reported moderate overall performance and relatively high number of compartment cases. In the results declared on Wednesday, girls registered a pass percentage of 91.21 per cent, ahead of boys who recorded 88.2 per cent.Prayagraj region’s overall pass percentage stood at 89.45 percent, placing it 17th out of 22 regions across the country and below the national average of 93.70 percent. A total of 3,14,553 students appeared out of 3,17,340 registered candidates from 1,226 schools and 320 examination centers out of which 2,81,298 were declared successful in the region.Institutional data indicate sharp variations in performance. Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas secured the highest pass percentage of 99.81, with 1,592 out of 1,599 students passing. Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) followed closely with a pass percentage of 98.98%, reflecting strong academic results among centrally managed institutions. Independent schools, which had the largest share of candidates with 1,48,518 registrations and 1,47,326 students, had a pass percentage of 89.31, with 1,31,573 students passing.In contrast, government schools lagged significantly behind, with a pass rate of 61.52 percent out of 3,116 registered candidates, highlighting the gap in academic support and infrastructure. The data clearly point to a wide institutional distribution in learning outcomes across the region.By gender, the performance gap remains clear, with girls outperforming boys by three percentage points. Of the total candidates, 63,993 girls appeared for the exam and, in line with broader national trends, showed a better pass rate than 91,734 boys.A total of 15,805 students were placed in the compartment category, which was 10.15% of those appearing, which is significantly higher than the national average of 5.95%. This indicates that a substantial number of students will need to repeat one or more subjects, indicating subject-level learning differences.The scale of the exam also reflects its importance in the region, with over three lakh candidates appearing at hundreds of centres. Compared to neighboring regions, Prayagraj’s performance was close to Patna at 89.33% and slightly below Lucknow at 91.63%, while Uttar Pradesh’s average was in line with 89.35%.Additionally, the data showed encouraging results for children with special needs (CWSN), with selected groups achieving a 100% pass rate. The exam, which was held from February 17 to March 11, saw an increase in participation this year, reflecting the national trend of rising registrations.Notably, the national ranking of Prayagraj region, from 15th position in 2025 to 17th position among all 22 regions of the country this year, is also reflected in the overall pass percentage, which has decreased from 91.01% in 2025 to 89.45% this year.Clearly, the Trivandrum Regional Office has maintained its top position for the third consecutive year with an impressive pass percentage of 99.79%, demonstrating continued excellence. Vijayawada retained its second position, while Chennai, Bengaluru and Delhi West stood third, fourth and fifth respectively. The overall pass ratio in 2026 was 93.70%, while in 2025 it was 93.66%, an increase of 0.04%.
