Indian Premier League The (IPL) may have run its course after LSG’s Akash Singh unleashed yet another message during his team’s IPL 2026 game against CSK on Friday.
The moment came during Lucknow Supergiants’ match against Chennai Super Kings at Ekana Stadium.
Playing his first match of the season, Akash made an immediate impact by removing CSK captain Rutoraj Gaikwad, Sanju Samson and Arul Patel to put Chennai under pressure early in the innings.
After dismissing Gaikwad, the left-arm fast bowler celebrated by pulling out a folded note from his pocket. The message on the paper read: “#Akki on fire – Akash knows how to take a wicket in a T20 game”.
The note-celebrating trend first became popular last season when Abhishek Sharma displayed a handwritten message for the fans during a match for Sunrisers Hyderabad. Since then, many players have used similar events.
Raghu Sharma used the same style of celebration earlier this season, while Arul Patel dedicated a note to his father after a performance.
However, Steyn did not seem impressed by the trend. Posting on X after Akash’s celebration, the former South African fast bowler suggested that the idea had lost its appeal.
“Time to put away the papers. It’s not a trend anymore. To be honest, it never really was,” Stan posted on X.
Do you think a handwritten note is still relevant in IPL?
Interestingly, LSG head coach Justin Langer also said that he was not aware of Akash’s plans. Langer was asked about the celebration by commentators during the broadcast and the Australian admitted he had no prior knowledge of it, while quipping that team management might have to look into the matter.Akash later clarified that there was no deeper reason behind the celebration.“It just motivates me. There is no reason behind it. Whoever motivates me during the game, I will support him,” Akash was quoted as saying.
