Bangladesh registered their second ODI win against Australia in the first match of the series in Mirpur on Tuesday, defeating a beaten Australian team by 86 runs via the DLS method.Returning to ODI cricket after four years, Mossadegh Hussain scored an unbeaten 86 off 70 balls. Najamul Hussain Shanto scored 67 runs, while opener Tanzid Hasan scored 54 runs and Bangladesh scored 284/8.In reply, Australia were restricted to 191/9 in 42.2 overs, before lightning and rain halted play. Chasing 285, Australia still needed 94 runs from 46 balls when the match was stopped and could not be restarted. Cameron Green remained unbeaten on 52 off 66 balls.Fast bowler Naheed Rana led Bangladesh’s bowling attack with 4/41, regularly touching 140 kmph. Mossad also contributed with the ball, returning figures of 2/37 from his 10 overs.Australia’s chase of the target got off to the worst possible start when Matthew Short was bowled by Tasin Ahmed on the first ball of the innings. In the recent ODI series against Pakistan, Marnes Lebuschgan, who scored 0, 5 and 19, managed just 1 before being dismissed by Mustafizur Rahman.Cooper Connolly scored 35 and shared a 49-run partnership with captain Josh Inglis (19) and added another 40 with Alex Carey (47). However, Mossadeq dismissed Connolly and Rana struck three times in three overs during his second spell to put Bangladesh firmly in control.Mossadegh’s innings included seven fours and three sixes. Connolly and Oliver Peck dropped twice before reaching their half-centuries, while Adam Zampa missed another chance when he was on 73.Shantu survived an early chance on 9 before registering his 12th ODI half-century.Nathan Ellis was the most successful bowler for Australia with 3/38 who also impressed in the recent Pakistan series.The victory was Bangladesh’s first ODI win against Australia since 2005. Australia lost the ODI series against Pakistan 2-1 last week and are playing their first bilateral ODI series against Bangladesh in 15 years. The remaining two matches of the series will be played in Mirpur on Thursday and Sunday.
