Speaking to Bollywood Bubble, Patel said, “When I was born at Breach Candy Hospital, the first person who came to see me was Indira Gandhi.” He even reflected on his grandfather, noted lawyer Rajni Patel, noting his strong presence in political circles. He shared, “My grandfather, Barrister Rajni Patel, was a very famous lawyer. He later entered politics. He was his mentor from childhood. Jawaharlal Nehru. When he entered politics, he first joined the Communist Party and then went to the Congress. During his time in the Congress, his closest associate was Indira Gandhi. He was his chief adviser. He was also Congress treasurer and Congress president. There was no major move that Indira Gandhi would make without discussing it with my grandfather or taking his opinion. My grandfather also collected money for many Chief Ministers all over India. It’s a very politically involved family.”

In the same interaction, Patel also mentioned that his parents’ wedding date was fixed based on Indira Gandhi’s convenience. “Indira Gandhi also fixed my parents’ wedding date. Their horoscopes didn’t match, so they asked her when she was available, and based on her dates, my parents’ wedding day was finalized.” He highlighted another contribution of his grandfather, saying, “The Nehru Planetarium in Worli was built by my grandfather as a tribute to his mentor Jawaharlal Nehru. There is a very deep connection with the Gandhi family.’ Underscoring their close professional ties, “My grandfather was a Congressman, and he had very deep professional ties with Indira Gandhi.”
