Pictures of Abhishek and Ash in their royal wedding ensembles surfaced online with eagle-eyed fans among the actor’s wedding accessories and a striking piece of jewelery – formerly part of the crown jewels of the Nizam of Hyderabad – spotted at the Met Gala in 2026.The renewed fascination with the pearl, diamond and emerald piece came after netizens noticed Bachchan wearing a similar eye-catching kalgi in his turban during his 2007 wedding ceremonies with Aishwarya. Archival photos from the star couple’s lavish Mumbai wedding have now entered the online debate about the Nizam’s famous jewellery.

While there has been no official confirmation regarding the said jewel, designer duo Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla have talked about making Abhishek and Aishwarya’s wedding a royal affair. The designers highlighted the complexity of the groom’s attire. “She had some of the best jewelry out there. She wore phenomenal pieces, Abu and I. It was the first time anyone had ever worn a Mughal necklace. There were ruby buttons on Abhishek’s sherwani,” Abu recalled.While the gorgeous groom rocked diamonds, rubies, pearls and other precious stones, the beautiful bride was adorned in gold. Celebrity Aishwarya opted for traditional gold woven Kanjeevaram saree which was accessorized with heavy gold jewellery.
Patiala necklace sparks controversy at Met Gala 2025
While Nizam’s headpiece made waves at the Met Gala this year, another controversy erupted last year after Punjabi star Dilji Dosanjh was reportedly denied permission to wear the iconic 1928 Cartier Patiala necklace to the 2025 Met Gala because it was part of a long-term loan (available to the museum in London, New York and Victoria & A. New York Times London and Victoria & A. New York). Netizens were up in arms that Diljit was denied the piece, but Emma Chamberlain was able to wear the piece during her appearance at the Met in 2022.However, Diljit still wore a custom outfit and a replica necklace from Golecha Jewels to pay homage to his roots.
