Mercedes-Benz India is all set to launch the new 2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class luxury sedan in the Indian market tomorrow, i.e. on June 15, 2026. The updated Mercedes-Benz S-Class includes extensive design revisions, technology upgrades and new features, with nearly 9 percent of the Mercedes-Benz car. The luxury sedan is also expected to get a petrol engine option at a later stage. However, the company is yet to confirm the future of the diesel-powered variant.Design-wise, the updated Mercedes-Benz S-Class retains its overall design profile, although most of the visual revisions focus on the front. The facelift introduces a larger grille with chrome star pattern inserts and an illuminated surround, while the bonnet-mounted Mercedes badge is now backlit. The redesigned headlamps are larger and have daytime running lights in the shape of a triple three-pointed star.Mercedes-Benz has also equipped the sedan with its latest micro-LED digital light technology, which the company claims increases brightness by 40 percent. The system also includes an ultra-range high beam capable of illuminating up to 600 meters ahead. Changes to the sides are relatively limited and include redesigned alloy wheels, including optional 50-spoke units manufactured using a high-pressure casting process. The updated S-Class also gets additional exterior color options, including several finishes from Mercedes-Benz’s manufacturer customization program.The luxury sedan has now added more cameras, radar and ultrasonic sensors to support upgraded driver assistance functions. At the rear, the major update comes in the form of slimmer LED taillamps that incorporate three-pointed star light elements, similar to those seen on the latest Mercedes-Benz E-Class.Moving inside, the updated S-Class gets a glossy black dashboard layout combining three screens, which Mercedes-Benz calls Superscreen. The setup includes a 12.3-inch driver display, a front passenger screen and a large 14.4-inch central touchscreen that handles most of the vehicle’s functions. The sedan also adopts the latest MB OS digital architecture, integrating systems such as lighting, cameras, suspension and powertrain control. The software supports cloud connectivity, AI-based functions, Google Maps navigation and vehicle-to-everything technology. Rear passengers continue to get dual 13.1-inch entertainment screens, while the previous rear control tablet has been replaced with two smaller touch-based controllers. The cabin retains the leather upholstery and optional wood trim finishes, while the climate vents are now integrated behind the bright metal panels with electrically adjustable airflow controls.Most of the vehicle’s functions are operated via a touchscreen interface and capacitive shortcut controls. The car also features facial recognition via the dashboard-mounted camera, which also supports video calling and cabin monitoring. Rear-seat comfort is a key focus, with the long-wheelbase version offering heating, ventilation, massage functions and an optional four-seat configuration with up to 43 degrees of seat recline.Talking about the powertrain up front, the S 450e with EQ Hybrid Technology trim gets a 3.0-litre turbo-petrol inline-six engine with an electric motor that produces a combined 435hp and 680Nm of torque. Power comes from a 22kWh battery pack, which Mercedes-Benz claims can provide up to 100km of electric-only driving range under ideal conditions.The S 450 trim gets a 3.0-liter six-cylinder turbocharged engine mated to a 48V mild hybrid system that provides extra support during acceleration. The setup produces 404hp and 500Nm of torque. The diesel-powered Mercedes-Benz S350D is powered by a 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine that produces 330hp and 650Nm. Like the S 450, power is sent to all four wheels via Mercedes-Benz’s AWD setup. Adaptive air suspension remains standard, with active self-leveling offered as an option. Rear axle steering is now standard at 4.5 degrees, while a 10-degree setup is an option.It is not yet confirmed whether the Mercedes-Benz S-Class will be brought to India as a CBU import or assembled locally to keep prices competitive. The updated flagship sedan is expected to be priced from Rs 2 crore (ex-showroom), with the plug-in hybrid variant likely to carry the highest price tag. Once introduced, the S-Class will compete with the likes of the Audi A8 and BMW 7 Series in the Indian market.
