Zoya Akhtar He has spoken about the alleged theft of the hard drive to Tiger Baby Films, the banner he co-founded with filmmaker Reema Kagti. The case, involving the disappearance of 66 hard drives containing crucial production material, has sparked concern in the entertainment industry.In an interaction with Bollywood Hungama, Zoya confirmed that a robbery had taken place at her office and said that the police is investigating.“Yes, there was a robbery in my office, the hard drives were stolen. We filed a complaint and the police also made some arrests. It’s an inside job, it’s sad how far people go to make money,” he said.However, the filmmaker clarified that the company has ensured backups of the missing content.“Luckily, we have everything backed up,” he added.
FIR registered, two accused arrested
According to reports, the complaint was filed by Mehjabeen Mushtaq Shaikh, HR Administrator and Executive Assistant at Tiger Baby Digital LLP.Following the complaint, the Bandra Police registered an FIR against Mohammad Shahid Azim Khan and Ritesh Suresh Shah. The accused were later arrested and remanded in police custody till May 29.The alleged theft came to light on May 21 after employees were unable to locate several hard drives needed for ongoing projects. An internal search found allegedly damaged storage boxes and several empty hard drive boxes inside the office.
The missing units reportedly contained unpublished content
According to reports, the company’s inventory included 119 hard drives, of which 66 were allegedly found missing. The stolen drives stored sensitive production data, with capacities ranging from 16TB to 72TB.Investigators suspect that the missing material may include raw footage, edited scenes, post-production files, archive backups, ad campaign content and unreleased material related to films and OTT projects.Some reports also claim that the data may contain content related to projects such as Made in Heaven and Ghost Stories. According to the police, one of the defendants has confessed to having stolen several hard drives in recent months and sold them on the gray market. Authorities are now investigating whether any data from the drives was duplicated, leaked or circulated online before they disappeared.
