Hollywood star Zac Efron is building a private ecological paradise in Australia’s Tweed Valley rainforest. This off-the-grid, zero-waste abode, called the Futurecave, is being built with hemp and natural materials, aiming to be the healthiest home on Earth. Efron’s commitment to sustainability and his growing ties to Australia are evident in this ambitious project.

Zac Efron is quietly building a private eco-home in a remote Australian rainforest, according to a new report. The actor is said to be living in Byron Bay in his dream property in the Tweed Valley, about an hour inland from Byron Bay. The house sits on a 128-acre block of jungle land, which Efron bought in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. The project, named Futurecave, is designed as an off-grid, zero-waste residence built close to nature.

Page Six reports that Efron has hired Australian environmental designer Joost Bakker to direct the project. Bakker confirmed last month that the planning had been approved, but the latest report said Efron remained in Australia during construction and kept a low profile.Bakker shared her excitement on Instagram, writing, “Excited to start Zac’s house!” She also previously told Domain, “It’s not every day of the week that @zacefron asks you to design her house – I’m excited!”The property is expected to include 830 square meters of space divided into connected pods. Plans include a gymnasium, outdoor walkways and rooftops covered in plant life. The house will use hemp blocks instead of concrete and other natural materials. Bakker said the design aims to support local habitats, including endangered insects.

Bakker clearly described Efron’s brief. “He really wants it to be the healthiest house on the planet,” he said.People reports that the home will be made almost entirely of hemp, including the interior bricks, mattress, curtains and pillows. The outlet also announced that the hemp will come from a local farm, and the kitchen and bathroom fixtures will use sustainable planks from Plantbord.Efron has long shown interest in Australia. He spent time there while filming his Netflix series ‘Down to Earth with Zac Efron: Down Under’. Reports also claimed he had put his Los Angeles mansion up for sale, adding to speculation he plans to spend more time in Australia. The actor is also attached to a new HBO and A24 project based on the story behind the 1987 film ‘Angel Heart’. In the series, he is expected to play a paparazzo in New York who is involved in a strange case of a missing person.
