Creator of ‘It: Welcome to Derry’ Andy Muschietti has shared a major update on Season 2, confirming that they are working on the next chapter of the HBO Max horror series. After Season 1 ended in December, Muschietti revealed that the story will move back to 1935 and explore a darker period of Derry’s past. The new season will focus on the Bradley Gang, bank robbers whose stoppage in Derry leads to a violent incident linked to the town’s infamous history.
‘It: Welcome to Derry’ season 2 is in development
Speaking to Deadline, Muschietti said the team is already working on Season 2 and enjoying the new environment. “It’s 1935, we’re working now, and it’s a lot of fun. For those of you who read the books, the Bradley Gang probably looks familiar. The Bradley Gang was a group of bank robbers, not necessarily, but they were on their way somewhere and they stopped in Derry to buy some ammunition and they said something terrible had happened,” he said.Muschietti also explained the real-life connection behind the story. “The Bradley Gang is based on the Brady Gang, which is a real gang of robbers that was executed on the streets of Bangor, Maine. And now we’re not creating an event where the big paroxysm of violence in this case will be a massacre of a Bradley gang,” he said. The creator said that the next season will show Derry during the Depression, which changes the world of the series in a big way. “It’s exciting because what’s really fun at this stage of development is that we’re dealing with an era that’s a Depression Era that changes the set-up of things dramatically,” he said.
Teasing Andy Muschietti Pennywise and season 3
Muschietti added that the environment will move away from the popular image of children living in the suburbs. “There’s no suburban comfort; there’s a troop of kids who live in the suburbs and ride their bikes and all of a sudden one of them disappears like that. This is in 1935. It is a very serious situation. The people are very poor. They are fighting for survival, so the set-up will be very different.’Muschietti also hinted at a bigger plan for the series. “There’s like three big events in Season 1 of Welcome to Derry … and Season 3 would be the explosion at the Kitchener Iron Works, which is a big explosion at an Easter egg hunt where a hundred kids lost their lives.”Asked what he might reveal right now about the role of the devilish clown, Muschietti was brief but clear: “He’s always around, I can tell you that much.” The commentary suggests that the force behind Pennywise will take center stage as the show moves through Derry’s past.
