A heartfelt tribute to Ilaiyaraaja
Ilaiyaraaja paid tribute to Bharathiraja at his residence in Neelankarai, Chennai. The legendary composer appeared emotional as he stood in front of his longtime friend’s mortal remains. He spoke briefly to the media who attended the funeral, “There is nothing to say. We have lost the man. This is not the place for interviews. I pray that his soul rest in peace.” His direct but meaningful words expressed the sadness of saying goodbye to someone who had been with him for many years.

One of the most fruitful collaborations ever began when Ilaiyaraaja composed the music for Bharathiraja’s first film ’16 Vayathinile’. They produced several fantastic films like ‘Kizhakke Pogum Rail’, ‘Sigappu Rojakkal’, ‘Puthiya Vaarpugal’, ‘Alaigal Oivathillai’, ‘Mudhal Mariyadhai’ and ‘Kadalora Kavithaigal’. Both were instrumental in making their films and music legendary for future generations of filmmakers. Even when they parted ways later, their admiration for each other never stopped.
