Badani was questioned about whether the decision to bat first on a difficult surface proved wrong. Responding to the criticism, he explained that despite the Arun Jaitley Stadium being the home venue of the Delhi Capitals, the franchise has little control over the nature of the pitch prepared by the curator.“We have no control over the levels. It’s very easy for one side to field 20 overs and then understand what the level will be like when they bat, and that’s what happened. I thought the game was over in the first 10 overs when we didn’t get enough; we were close to 70 for 5, and you don’t want to be 70 if it’s even a little bit below level 5. The up and down curve for us to understand that we’re in Delhi. What are we going to get, which is our house. A game was 265, but either side has little control over the surfaces,” Hemang Badani said during the post-match press conference.
