Virat Kohli likely to miss Afghanistan ODI. Suspense remains on Rohit Sharma.

New Delhi: Virat Kohli He is likely to miss India’s upcoming three-match ODI series against Afghanistan due to a hamstring injury. While the exact recovery timeline is still unclear, the former India skipper is expected to be unavailable for the series. It is reliably learned that Kohli is holidaying in Europe after winning the IPL with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).Kohli was in superb form in the tournament — scoring 675 runs at 56.25, hitting 150 fifties — and top-scored with an unbeaten 75 in the title clash against the Gujarat Titans. He strained his right hamstring while batting on May 31 and taped the area heavily before resuming his knock. Meanwhile, uncertainty remains over Rohit Sharma’s participation. The former India captain is yet to report to BCCI’s Center of Excellence (CoE) for fitness assessment and clearance, throwing his availability into doubt. Rohit and Hardik Pandya were included in the squad subject to fitness clearance and while the all-rounder has checked in, the former captain is yet to arrive in Bengaluru.Notably, the men’s senior selection committee, chaired by Ajit Agarkar, had looked to rest the two veterans for the three matches but a late change of heart led to their inclusion. The selectors and team management had advised Yashvi Jaiswal to try him in the top order along with Shubman Gill, but Rohit managed to retain his place.Interestingly, both players are dealing with hamstring issues, which could open up two spots in the team. With Virat ruled out and Rohit yet to get clearance, Jaiswal could be a late addition to the squad and the selectors could also look to add Rituraj Gaekwad, Devdutt Padikal or Tilak Verma to the middle-order mix.A decision is expected in the coming days as key decision-makers will select squads for the upcoming white-ball assignments in Ireland and England on June 6.
