New Delhi: As Gujarat Titans celebrated their place in the IPL 2026 final, a distraught Vibhu Suryavanshi sat quietly in the Rajasthan Royals dugout. The 15-year-old hid his face in his orange cap and wiped away tears, unable to hide his disappointment at seeing his team’s campaign come to an end.It was a rare sight. Throughout the season, Suryavanshi played with freedom and a smile, fearlessly taking on some of the best bowlers in the world and lighting up stadiums with his captivating strokeplay. But on Friday night, the young man was left heartbroken in Milanpur. He had done almost everything he could. A brilliant 96 off 47 balls took Rajasthan Royals to 214/6. However, his valiant effort was not enough as Gujarat Titans cruised to a seven-wicket win against defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru to book their place in the IPL final.Chasing 215, Gujarat Titans were led by skipper Shibman Gul, whose unbeaten 104 helped his team reach the target with eight balls to spare in New Chandigarh. The knock overshadowed Suryavanshi’s second consecutive 90-plus score in the playoffs.Suryavanshi batted for Rajasthan Royals for most of the season, scoring 776 runs, hitting 72 sixes and rewriting the record books. Yet, in that moment, none of these achievements mattered.Even as captain Ryan Prag addressed the broadcasters during the post-match presentation, Suryavanshi sat in the dugout struggling to control his emotions. A member of the support staff sat next to him, consoling a young man who had given everything for his team but collapsed painfully at the final hurdle.“I can’t really put it into words. There’s a way where you just go and chant and then you get a lot of runs. But the way he has batted, it is not just sloganeering. This is not blind sloganeering. You can’t do what you did today if you were going with just one ball,” RR captain Parag said after the match.“He calculates, he assesses situations. He literally does everything well. I still can’t figure out how. But hopefully he will continue to do that. Hopefully he will represent our country and make the country famous. And hopefully he will continue to play for Rajasthan Royals and lead us to another championship,” Prag added. At just 15 years of age, Suryavanshi showed that behind the fearless batting, smashing sixes and record-breaking performances is a young cricketer who cares deeply about his team. Individual milestones and personal accolades cannot ease the pain of elimination. His journey to IPL 2026 may have ended in tears, but it also marked the arrival of one of the sport’s brightest young talents. Rajasthan Royals’ season is over, but for Vibhu Suryavanshi, it feels like just the beginning.
