Tom Holland He may be set to release ‘The Odyssey’ and ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ in July, but the actor says it may have been instrumental in ‘delaying’ his superhero film.While promoting what’s to come Christopher Nolan film, Holland spilled the beans to GQ , revealing that he personally asked Sony Pictures to delay production on “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” so he could work on “The Odyssey.” The actress revealed that she had an “awkward conversation” with Sony Pictures president Tom Rothman after learning that they planned to start shooting the two projects at the same time.

“So I said to Chris, ‘Look, I want to do this movie, but if I’m going to do it, I’m going to have to call Sony and have a very uncomfortable conversation,'” Holland recalled. Ultimately, studio bosses agreed to delay production on the fourth Spider-Man film. According to the actor, “Sony was happy to move” as Nolan is known to stick to his filming schedule. He added that ‘The Odyssey’, “started on schedule and ended nine days early. Any other director, the conversation might have been a little different.”
How “The Odyssey” Saved “Spider-Man”
Holland stated that the schedule change ultimately “saved” “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” allowing the production to secure filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton. He said: “‘The Odyssey’ almost saved ‘Spider-Man’ because we wouldn’t have Destin. He wouldn’t have been ready to make the movie when we were ready to go. We wouldn’t have had six months to develop the script with Destin to get it to where it is now.” And I really think we made the best version of ‘Spider-Man’. So while it was a tough pill for Sony to swallow, I think looking back, they’re very grateful that it happened.”

The actor also spotted a past comment indicating that he would be stepping down from the role. Referring to a comment he made in 2021 when he suggested that continuing to play Spider-Man past the age of 30 meant he “did something wrong”, Holland says his perspective has now evolved.In her first note, the actor explained, “I was trying to remember what I wanted to say… I think the thing is, I’d like to pass the witness… It’s definitely something we talk about a lot in the studio.”He then joked, “I was going to try to take advantage of Sony and scare them into thinking I wasn’t going to do ‘Spider-Man 4’ now that I had a new deal on the horizon.”Despite initial scheduling conflicts, both projects are now set for a summer release.
