New Delhi: AICTE, the National Internship Portal under the Ministry of Education has expanded into a large-scale platform connecting students with industry-based learning opportunities in all sectors across India under the National Skilling Mission framework.In the last four and a half years, the initiative has completed 4.7 crore student registrations, 2.9 crore certified learners, and 79,57,193 internship opportunities as well as 32,78,900 internships from 81,483 companies across the country and participating with a nationwide digital coordination system.Scale of Internship Participation in InstitutionsMore than 81,483 registered companies and 12,077 colleges have joined the National Internship Portal through formal MoUs, covering more than 200 internship domains in technical, professional and emerging fields including engineering, management and digital technologies. These collaborations have enabled structured exposure for students from all institutions and widened access to work-based learning opportunities that support employment in all sectors nationally.Student participation reflects massive engagement, with 4.7 crore registrations and 2.9 crore verified users participating in internship mapping across states and institutions. The system also recorded 32,78,900 completed internships, indicating continuous engagement between learners and organizations over time in diverse sectors and improving access in rural and semi-urban areas.Industry integration and emerging skill trendsIndustry participation includes government bodies as well as organizations such as Microsoft, Google, IBM, Cisco, ServiceNow and Salesforce including C-DAC, NHAI, Indian Army and NCDC. This integration has strengthened links between academia and industry, enabling structured exposure for students to real work environments in fields that support future workforce readiness goals.Students are increasingly opting for emerging domains such as AI/ML, cloud computing, app development, cyber security and supply chain management across enterprises. These trends indicate a digital transformation in India in line with changes in industry demand and technological changes and a shift towards skill-based learning to meet the needs of an evolving workforce.Leadership vision and national cooperation frameworkOfficials from the Ministry of Education, AICTE and NETF have highlighted the coordinated leadership running the National Internship Portal across all institutes. The initiative has been supported by Dharmendra Pradhan, Vineet Joshi, Govind Jaiswal, Anil Sahasar Budhe, Yogesh Singh and Shyama Rath and has ensured policy level coordination and implementation support across departments.This ecosystem brings together ministries, public institutions, private companies and academic institutions to increase access to internships across India. Stakeholders are urged to provide more opportunities to strengthen employment outcomes for long-term skill development and workforce preparation across the country, including MSMEs and SMEs. More data continues to be updated through AICTE dashboards and official portal reporting systems at participating institutes across the country.
