Paul Mescal originally set up Hig to play

Paul Mescal, who starred in Scott’s ‘Gladiator’ sequel, was originally set to star in ‘The Dog Stars’ but dropped out in early 2025, citing scheduling conflicts with Sam Mendes’ Beatles biopic. In January 2025, according to a Variety report, Elordi was in talks to replace Mescal in the lead role, stating that his schedule was similarly busy while filming the third season of ‘Wuthering Heights’ and ‘Euphoria’. Despite the scheduling chaos, Elordi remained committed to the project, which began production in Italy in April 2025.
