Sunil Narayan On Saturday, he etched his name further into Indian Premier League history as he became the first foreign cricketer to play in 200 IPL appearances and the 13th player overall. The milestone came during Kolkata Knight Riders’ clash against Gujarat Titans, with KKR fighting hard to stay alive in the race for the IPL 2026 playoffs. GT won the toss and elected to bowl first, while KKR also welcomed mystery spinner Varun Chakraborty back from injury. Narine’s IPL journey began in 2012 when he made his debut for KKR against Rajasthan Royals. Over the past 14 seasons, the West Indies all-rounder has transformed into one of the most influential and versatile players in the league, playing a key role in KKR’s success at various times. Primarily known for revolutionizing T20 spin bowling with his enigmatic variations, Narine took 203 wickets in 200 matches at an impressive economy rate of 6.79, making him one of the most economical bowlers in IPL history. Even in an era increasingly dominated by aggressive batting, Narine has maintained control of the ball. The 2026 season is another reminder of his value. In a tournament where scores above 200 have become increasingly common, Narine has taken 11 wickets at an economy of just 6.64 – a remarkable feat in a batting-heavy season. Apart from his bowling exploits, Narine has reinvented himself in recent years as a dangerous power hitter at the top of the order. Throughout his IPL career, he has scored 1820 runs at a blistering strike rate of 165.30 and an average of 17.33, often giving KKR explosive starts in the powerplay. While KKR have struggled this season and are currently eighth on the points table with just four wins from 11 matches, Narine’s outstanding performance has added another historic chapter to one of the league’s most unique careers. The three-time champions must now win their last three league matches after their recent defeat against Royal Challengers Bengaluru significantly dented their play-off hopes.
