Sharing his thoughts, he said, “Honestly, the pressure was too much for me. For the last 16 years, I have made films the way I wanted, based on what I thought would work with the audience. But I don’t have the skills to make people understand that in production. I don’t know how to narrate a film effectively, and at the same time, I easily get into a fight without committing.Creative concerns and early exit from “Thalaivar 173”.The filmmaker further elaborated on the difficulties of handling a film with two legendary stars. He explained that such a project will bring together multiple voices and expectations, making it difficult to maintain his creative vision. He added, “So if I make a big film like this, it won’t be my decisions alone. I felt the pressure and realized that I couldn’t stay true to the project or the people involved. That’s why I left at the very initial stage.Sundar C also said in the interview that he personally informed Rajinikanth about the decision regarding his exit. Director Cibi Chakaravarthi was present to take over the project and take it forward.‘Thalaivar 173’ trailer and outtakeSundar C was initially announced as the director of the project, tentatively titled ‘Thalaivar 173’. The film was unveiled in November last year and was expected to have a Pongal 2027 release. However, a few days after the official announcement, the filmmaker walked away from the project. At the time he cited “unforeseen and unavoidable circumstances” as the reason for his departure.In a statement released shortly after his resignation, Sundar C regretted the missed opportunity. He also spoke about his long relationship with the two stars and his respect for them. He said: “There are times in life when we have to follow the path set, even if it deviates from our dreams. My association with these two icons goes back a long time, and I will always hold them in the highest regard. I will forever cherish the special moments we shared over the past few days. They have taught me invaluable lessons, and I will continue to seek their inspiration and wisdom as I move forward,” she said.Meanwhile, Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan will now team up for another ambitious project titled ‘KH x RK’. The film is positioned as a mainstream Tamil action thriller and is set to release in 2026. The project is directed by Nelson Dilipkumar with music composed by Anirudh Ravichander.Interestingly, the Malayalam film industry has had its biggest collaboration ever – Mammootty and Mohanlal team up for ‘Patriot’.
