SS Rajamouli’s ambitious film ‘Varanasi’ seems to be positioning itself for a wider international release. The film starring Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra and Prithviraj Sukumaran has been confirmed for a pan-India release, but after its premiere at CCXP Mexico 2026, rumors are rife that the makers are planning a wide global release.
‘Varanasi’ to release in Spanish?
Various reports online indicate that there is only a Spanish version of the film. While there has been no official confirmation of the same, the move seems to suggest that manufacturers are looking beyond domestic markets to enter Spanish-speaking regions.If the rumors are true, this will be another Indian film to be released in Spanish. Apart from ‘Varanasi’, the 2026 film adaptation of ‘Ramayana’ starring Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash is also gearing up for a grand global release. The film offers extensive AI-powered lip-synced dubbing versions in over 45 languages, including English, Japanese, Mandarin and Spanish. While the film’s dialogues will be translated, the shlokas are said to remain in the original language.
‘Varansai’ videos were shown at CCXP Mexico
The film was recently launched at CCXP Mexico where producer SS Karthikeya presented the videos to the audience. Although it was initially believed to be unveiling new footage, it was later revealed that the team had released three separate videos to introduce the project and its scale.As posted on social media, a video explored the historical and cultural significance of Varanasi, drawing parallels with ancient civilizations, the Mayans and the Aztecs. They also appeared behind the scenes.The second video reportedly focused on the film’s teaser launch event at Ramoji Film City. Last year’s event was reported to have approximately 50,000 attendees. The third video featured a message from Rajamouli along with the teaser, which was previously released online under the title ‘The World of Varanasi’. The images were reportedly projected at the conference in theater format.
Mahesh Babu was spotted in Amsterdam
Meanwhile, filming in full swing. Leading man Mahesh Babu was spotted in Amsterdam for a picture with a fan. He reportedly underwent physical training for the upcoming schedule of the show ‘Varanasi’. According to reports, after completing the dance routine with Priyanka, the film’s team is gearing up to head to Antarctica to shoot on the Ross Ice Shelf.The film will be released in 2027.
