Legendary saxophonist Sonny Rollins has passed away. He was known for being one of the pioneering names in the jazz genre and was known for creating some of the biggest hits of his time. He was 95 years old when he died.

The Associated Press reports that Rollins died peacefully at his home in Woodstock, New York. The famous musician dealt with many problems regarding his health. According to the report, he had been “at home” for the past few years, and mostly stayed at home because of his health.Rollins was known as one of the last living legends of the bebop era of Jazz and for working on and creating songs like ‘Airegin’, ‘Doxy’ and ‘Oleo’ to name a few.

Rollins was known for constantly experimenting with his sounds and opting for eclectic genres and mixing them with jazz. In 1957, he released the album ‘Way Out West’, which was a huge success in the context of cowboy and country music.On the other hand, rock music fans also got a taste of his talent when he worked with The Rolling Stones on their 1981 album ‘Tattoo You’. He had a saxophone solo on the album’s song ‘Waiting on a Friend’.On several occasions over the years, Rollins would mention that he had never been very happy with what he had done in life and that he wanted to learn more about music. In an old interview with the Associated Press in 2007, the famous musician said, “I don’t consider myself a musician who has learned as much as I want to learn.” Rollins began his journey at a young age and was active before retiring as an adult.He stopped playing music in the late 2000s after being diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis. In 2012, he performed his last official concert, and in 2014 he completely retired from the music scene.Rollins’ death came as a shock as he was one of the greatest musical pioneers of his time. He leaves his legacy behind in all the music he produced throughout his career.
