Shahana Goswami has spoken candidly about his relationship with an actress-model Milind SomanA year before his marriage to Ankita Konwar in 2018. In a recent interaction, Shahana recalled how she first connected. Milind as teenage fans and reflected on why their relationship eventually ended.
‘I was so surprised’
Speaking to Siddharth Kannan, Shahana shared that she first noticed Milind after watching Rules: Pyaar Ka Superhit Formula while at school in Delhi.“When I was 16-17, I was in Delhi and a Milind film was released. My school friends and I went to see that film. Also, I thought why would we watch a model’s film? It would be a very bad performance, but Milind mesmerized me in the film,” he said.The actor revealed that after watching the film, he looked up her contact details online and finally found her landline number. According to Shahana, Milind left her phone number on the answering machine, after which he texted her on her birthday and she responded immediately.
“Basically, I was a huge fan”
Shahana admitted that although they had been in touch through text messages over the years, they had never spoken on the phone during that time.“For six years we had an interaction over text, we never talked over the call. I was basically a Stalker fan,” he joked.He added that after moving to Mumbai for college, the two dated a few times before finally starting a relationship when they were both single.“Six years later, sometime when we were both single, I messaged him and then we started dating,” she shared.
“I’ve never felt the age difference”
The actress also addressed the 21-year age gap between her and Milind, saying that it never affected their relationship.“I was always more mature than my age. We were very open in my family and I always felt mature from a young age,” he explained.Shahana added that she learned several important life lessons from Milind during their time together.“He used to say: ‘No one is responsible for your happiness or sadness.’ That resonated with me,” he said.The actor fondly recalled how Milind changed his perception of cats.“I used to like dogs more than cats, but Milind is so much like a cat that after interacting with him, I understood how to love and care for cats,” she added.
‘We didn’t want the same things’
Opening up about their breakup in 2013, Shahana said that the relationship ended because they eventually realized that despite loving each other, they were no longer compatible.“It’s just a matter of time. Until the end, we were in love with each other. When you see that a relationship is out of sync, you have to let it go,” she said.The actor also explained that he finally realized that he didn’t fit into the idea of a conventional relationship.“I believe very deeply in love, but I also believe in freedom. If you keep people trapped with you, that’s not love,” she shared.According to Shahana, although there was a lot of love between them, at the end of the day, they wanted different things from life and relationships.
