Sebastian Stan and Renate Reinsve rocked the Cannes Film Festival as their family drama ‘Fjord’ received a 10-minute standing ovation at its premiere on Monday night. Cristian Mungiu’s film was screened at the Grand Palais and provoked strong reactions from the audience for its story about a Romanian family in Norway whose life was shattered after the children were taken away by state authorities due to alleged abuse.According to Variety , ‘Fjord’ follows the Gheorghiu family, led by a Romanian father played by Stan and a Norwegian mother played by Reinsve. The family moves to a quiet town in Norway, where they build a new life before being investigated. Their children are then removed from custody, sparking a painful legal and personal crisis.
The Cannes premiere of ‘Fjord’ has received an emotional response
The Cannes audience reacted strongly to the screening, with audiences outraged as parents coped with the loss of teenagers, teenagers and children. The film focuses on the clash between strict religious beliefs, social norms and state power. Cristian Mungiu returns to Cannes with ‘Fjord’
Mungiu has a long history with Cannes. In 2007 he won the Palme d’Or for his work ‘4 months, 3 weeks and 2 days’. Later, he won the award for best screenplay in 2012 for the film ‘Beyond the Hills’ and for best director in 2016 for the film ‘Graduation’. His 2022 drama ‘RMN’ also competed at the festival. Stan and Reinsve are also Cannes veterans. Stan participated in the festival with the film ‘The Apprentice’, while Reinsve won the award for best actor with the film ‘The Worst Person in the World’. He also returned with the work ‘Sentimental Value’ which won the Grand Prix. Neon received ‘Fjord’ a year before its Cannes debut. The distributor also has ‘Hope’ and ‘Paper Tiger’ at Cannes this year.
