Filmmaker Sanjay Gupta publicly questioned FWICE’s decision to ban Ranveer Singh for his ‘Don 3’ outing, arguing that the ban ultimately deprives 300 workers of their livelihood. The FWICE issued a directive stating that Farhan Akhtar’s sudden exit from Ranveer caused a loss of Rs 45 crores during the pre-production stage of the film.

The Federation of West Indian Cine Workers (FWICE) on Monday (May 25) imposed a ban on the actors. The non-cooperation directive against Ranveer was issued by FWICE after Farhan approached the federation in April regarding the ‘Don 3’ case. The body issued several notices to the actor, to which the body responded that FWICE was not the “appropriate forum” to resolve what it considered a contractual matter between the parties involved.

FWICE president Ashoke Pandit addressed the media in a press conference to clarify the reason for the federation’s decision. He explained that FWICE was forced to act after Farhan lodged a formal complaint saying that Ranveer had walked out of the film days before the shoot began, and that the actor had consistently failed to respond to their notices. “As soon as we received the complaint, we formally registered it. Then we sent three notices to Ranveer Singh: every 10 days, inviting him to contact us and three reminders. However, we did not receive any response. As we did not receive any response, we collectively decided to call a press conference. The Federation received a press conference. Mr. Singh stated that this matter did not fall under our jurisdiction and we had no authority to intervene in it. We took note of his stance and decided to proceed accordingly,” Pandit said.

Farhan claims loss of 45 crores – financial games behind “Don 3” case

Last month, Farhan took the matter before the FWICE, alleging that Ranveer’s sudden exit from the project had led to financial losses of Rs 45 crore. The official letter from the federation detailed the sequence of events: “The complaint was lodged by filmmaker Farhan Akhtar before IFTDA on 11 April 2026, after which the matter was officially referred to FWICE for further action and appropriate intervention. In accordance with the principles of fairness, transparency and natural justice, FWICE convened meetings to hear the matter from all interested parties. Farhan Akhtar, along with the film’s producer. During the proceedings, Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani had already informed FWICE that approximately Rs. 45 crore for the pre-production of the film. He expressed grave concern that withdrawing such a leading actor from the project at such an advanced stage could expose the producer to severe financial losses and could harm the overall execution of the film.”
