Last year, the production company behind the beloved series announced and confirmed that there would be a Christmas special, which left fans in awe. However, according to recent reports by the BBC, they have confirmed that there will be no Christmas special.Not only that, the production company is issuing a new tender for production houses to work on creating the next season of the series. The news comes on the heels of Russell T Davies announcing his exit from the show.
Russell T Davies has announced his departure from ‘Doctor Who’
Russell T Davies has been associated with one of the series for about 8 years now. He worked on the revival of the series and was there for two seasons of the show. He first worked on ‘Doctor Who’ from 2005 to 2010, and rejoined the series in 2023, until his final season last year.Taking to his social media account recently, the famous showrunner announced that he will not be returning to the series for his upcoming projects. He posted a drawn photo of the iconic phone booth from the series ‘Doctor Who’ and said goodbye to the show he participated in for around eight years.He began his post by saying: “And so GOODBYE from me to Doctor Who but HELLO to a great new future for the show, as the BBC announces it’s going soft on the show. As a result, there will be no Christmas Special.” He also added that they created the Christmas special at a time when they knew what was going to happen; however, things have changed.He later added in his post, “You’ll have to wait a little longer for the new Doctor Who… but you’ll be waiting for MORE Doctor Who than a one-off. So worth it!” , here and also sharing that it was taken to start the creation of the special section.To conclude his message, Davies expressed his excitement about the future of the ‘Doctor Who’ series and that he can’t wait, along with the fans, to see what comes next.He shared: “Now I’m as excited as anyone to see what comes next!
