A joint team of Uttar Pradesh’s Special Task Force, along with the Mumbai Police’s Crime Branch, on Thursday arrested a wanted criminal in connection with the shooting at filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s Mumbai residence in Agra. The teams nabbed the accused, identified as Pradeep Kumar alias Gaath, from Chhadami Mattha area on Agra-Etah road on Thursday evening. The arrest marks another major breakthrough in a case linked to the notorious Shubham Lonkar gang.

According to PTI, Pradeep Kumar, a resident of Ashok Nagar in Agra, was nabbed at 3.56 pm under Bah police station limits. Rakesh, Additional Superintendent of Police, STF Field Unit, Agra, supervised the operation. According to an official statement, “the arrest was the result of technical analysis and intelligence sharing between Mumbai crime branch and Uttar Pradesh STF.”According to the investigators, the accused was radicalized in gang activity through the Lonkar gang’s presence on Facebook and Instagram. He admitted his involvement in the crime along with associates Sunny, Deepu and Sonu, with the aim of establishing “dominance” in the underworld.

Pradeep Kumar is the ninth person arrested in connection with the case. Eight others, including Pradeep Sharma Golu, Deepak and Vishnu Kushwaha, were earlier nabbed in joint operations between the Mumbai Police and other agencies.After Thursday’s arrest, the accused was handed over to the Mumbai police team at Bah police station. He is expected to be taken into transit custody by the Mumbai Police Crime Branch pending legal proceedings.

The shooting incident took place on the night of February 1, 2026, at Shetty Tower in Mumbai’s Juhu area. Police say the attack was orchestrated by the Shubham Lonkar gang with the dual intention of extorting money and spreading fear among the film industry and the general public. The Mumbai Police later registered a case under the stringent Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Arms Act, Maharashtra Police Act and Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA).
