Autopsies on the deaths of Hollywood film director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, have not yet been completed, a Los Angeles court heard Wednesday, as the couple’s son, Nick Reiner, made a brief appearance on charges of double murder.
Nick Reiner makes a court appearance
Nick appeared Wednesday for a hearing aimed at determining whether there was enough evidence to go to trial. However, lawyers said they were still collecting evidence, and a prosecutor told the court that autopsy reports were still pending.Reiner, who has a history of addiction, has previously pleaded “not guilty.” He was ordered to return to court on September 15 and remains in jail in the meantime.
Nick Reiner charged with double murder
Nick is charged with two counts of first-degree murder for the double slaying that hit Hollywood just days before Christmas. The 32-year-old man was arrested on December 14 after the bodies of his filmmaker father and photographer mother Michele Singer Reiner were found in their home in the upscale Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles.Prosecutors said 79-year-old Rob Reiner – who directed blockbusters such as ‘When Harry Met Sally’ and ‘A Few Good Men’ – and his 70-year-old wife were stabbed to death.If convicted as charged, Reiner could face life in prison without parole, or the death penalty, although California does not normally impose the death penalty.
Jake Reiner pays tribute to his parents
Last week, his brother paid an emotional tribute to the men’s parents, calling their deaths “almost too much to process”.“We lost more than half of our family that night in the most brutal way imaginable,” Jake Reiner wrote in his first detailed public remarks about the horrific murders.“Losing a parent is devastating, but nothing compares to losing both at the same time and having your brother at the center,” she wrote in a Substack post titled “Mom and Dad.”
