Real Madrid announced on Friday that Aurelien Chomeny and Federico Valverde have each been fined 500,000 euros after a training brawl that left Valverde in hospital.The club said the two players would not be given any sporting penalties, adding that the penalty “thus ends the internal procedure” initiated after the incident.Valverde will miss Sunday’s Clasico against FC Barcelona after suffering a head injury during the clash. The club said he could be out for up to two weeks.Tchouameni trained on Friday and could still play at Camp Nou this weekend.Madrid said both players “expressed full remorse for what happened and apologized to each other” during the club’s investigation.“He has apologized to the club, his teammates, the coaching staff and the fans and both have made themselves available to Real Madrid to accept whatever sanction the club deems appropriate,” a club statement said.According to Spanish media reports referring to the news agency AFP, Valverde was taken by coach Alvaro Arbeloa to a hospital near the Valdebibas training ground in Madrid. According to reports, he required stitches for a facial injury.Valverde later tried to play down the seriousness of the incident.“The situation was exacerbated by the stress and frustration of the competition,” Valverde wrote on social media.“I accidentally hit a table during the altercation, which left me with a small cut on my forehead that required a routine visit to the hospital,” he said.“At no point did my partner hit me, and I didn’t hit him either.”Reports said the two players argued during training on Wednesday and continued during the session and later on Thursday.Spanish media also reported that Valverde refused to shake Chomeini’s hand and later fouled him during training on Thursday. Reports further stated that the two then got into a fight in the dressing room where the injury occurred.Tensions are high at Real Madrid as the club threatens to end a second consecutive season without a major trophy.Madrid are 11 points behind Barcelona in La Liga.
